The workshops offered by Genre Arts vary in artistic areas, ranging from theatre, music, design, visual arts, creative writing, and dance. Each of these programs uses exciting exercises to teach students to think creatively about the world around them, and culminates into some form of public exhibition with participants showcasing work done in the workshop. By day, our work is geared toward building the capacity of nonprofit organizations that address social issues and affect change, by night...we join them- developing creative and compelling programming that promotes learning, dialogue, and collaborative solutions. |

Woodford Tennis Club
|
This is a bird's eye view of our beginnings, motivation and dreams. With hope that this small part of our history will give you a better understanding and appreciation of Woodford Tennis Club, Inc .Woodford is located in East Germantown section of Philadelphia and organized in 1958. There were;seven original members, which grew to eighty-threein less than three years. The dream and vision of our founder, the late Royal L. Sims, of an African American tennis club owning it's Tennis facility, at a time when African Americans were clandestinely denied membership in the established tennis complexes and country clubs. This dream, motivated the club to purchase our current location with the expectation of purchasing a parcel of land from the adjacent woods for the purchase of building tennis courts. The land where the tennis courts now stand was, at the time , was a bed a dirt, grass and debris, which took us four years to develop into playable tennis courts. |
