Artist's Statement— Ruth A. Seeley
I grew up loving color, drawing and all sorts of art. I studied art to advanced level general certificate of education in the UK.
I traveled, worked in Kenya in the mid 1960s and moved to the US in late 1969, where I worked in non-profit administration. I occasionally illustrated the writings of others and enjoyed amateur photography but I did not return to painting until I retired in 2009. I studied with Howard N. Watson at the Woodmere Art Museum in Chestnut Hill, PA.
I work primarily from my own photographs and have a partiality for landscapes and earthy colors. I'm constantly experimenting with new textures and approaches. Each painting is an adventure that starts off in my head but ends up affected by color, line and experimental changes. I can't imagine ever ceasing to learn and being excited by the infinite ways in which water color can be put on paper. I hope you will enjoy viewing a painting as much as I have enjoyed creating it.
